If you already understand some Bulgarian but still hesitate when it is your turn to speak, our Speaking Practice Sessions are made exactly for that. Join a small group, practise real-life Bulgarian and start turning all that passive knowledge into actual conversation!
You know how it goes – you have studied the grammar, you know quite a lot of vocabulary, you understand what somebody is saying to you and, somewhere inside your head, you even know what you want to answer. Then the person looks at you and waits, and suddenly the sentence that was definitely there a second ago has completely disappeared.
This is one of the most common difficulties when learning the Bulgarian language for foreigners. Understanding a language and actually producing it in a real conversation are two different skills, and in order to excel at the second one, you will need something more than grammar and exercises.
That is exactly why at Kristina Progress we created our Bulgarian Speaking Practice Sessions – a place where learners can actually use what they already know, get used to speaking in front of other people and slowly stop treating every small mistake like a complete and total disaster.
Why speaking can feel much harder than studying?
When you are doing an exercise, you have time. You can look at the sentence, think about the verb, remember the ending, change your answer and check it again. Real conversation is considerably less patient with you.
Somebody asks you a question and waits. Suddenly you are trying to remember the vocabulary, choose the correct tense, pronounce everything properly and work out whether the person has just asked къде, кога or какво. For many learners, especially those who have recently moved to the country, this creates a language barrier. They may understand Bulgarian surprisingly well but still switch immediately to English because making a mistake feels uncomfortable.
The problem is that avoiding speaking also makes speaking harder. At some point you simply have to start using the language before every sentence feels perfectly ready in your head.
And yes, you are going to make mistakes! So better make them with us 😉
This is probably the most important part. Our Speaking Practice Sessions are specifically built around the idea that mistakes are not something embarrassing which need to be avoided. They are part of learning a language and, quite often, the fastest way to discover what you still need to work on.
Nobody expects somebody learning Bulgarian to suddenly produce perfect sentences every time they open their mouth. We certainly don’t. The sessions take place in small groups of 4 to 8 participants, which gives everybody enough opportunity to speak while still keeping the atmosphere relaxed. The teacher can listen, guide the conversation and give individual feedback without turning every small mistake into an interruption.
The point is not to wait until your Bulgarian is perfect enough to speak. If everybody did that, nobody would ever begin.
We practise Bulgarian you can actually use!
Each session lasts 90 minutes and revolves around a practical everyday topic selected according to the language level of the group. That might mean shopping, travelling, going to the doctor, dealing with institutions, talking about work or simply having a normal conversation with friends and neighbours.
Participants receive useful vocabulary, expressions and activities beforehand, so nobody arrives completely unprepared and spends the first twenty minutes desperately hoping somebody else will speak first. The idea is to become familiar with the topic before the session and then actually use that vocabulary in conversation instead of simply recognising it on a worksheet.
For people going through language learning and relocation, this kind of practice can make a particularly big difference. The Bulgarian you need after moving here is rarely limited to introducing yourself and ordering coffee. Soon enough you need to speak to neighbours, colleagues, receptionists, delivery drivers and occasionally somebody behind a desk asking for a document you did not know existed.
That is where language and integration become very closely connected. Knowing Bulgarian does not simply help you complete an exercise. It gives you considerably more independence in everyday life.
You don’t even have to be one of our students… yet!
The sessions are open to anyone learning Bulgarian, whether you study with us, attend another school or have bravely decided to teach yourself. They are especially useful for people who already have some passive knowledge but simply do not get enough opportunities to use it.
This makes them useful not only for individuals but also for international teams. Companies looking for Bulgarian for employees, Bulgarian for international staff or broader language training for expats often encounter exactly the same problem – somebody can complete a course and still feel uncomfortable using Bulgarian with colleagues or in everyday situations.
Speaking practice can therefore be a useful addition to corporate language courses, expat onboarding Bulgaria programmes and other forms of relocation support Bulgaria, where the goal is not simply language knowledge but helping somebody actually function confidently after moving here.
For HR teams exploring language solutions for companies, the same principle applies. Effective Bulgarian for professionals should eventually leave the classroom and enter real conversations.
A small commitment, a regular practice!
The Speaking Practice Sessions take place twice a month and are offered as a package of two sessions for €24. There is no long-term commitment – you join the current two sessions and afterwards decide whether you want to continue.
This makes it easier to combine speaking practice with an existing Bulgarian course, independent study, work or everyday life without adding another large commitment to your schedule. For many learners, that small amount of regular speaking is much more useful than waiting months for the mythical moment when they suddenly feel completely ready.
For organisations interested in B2B language education Bulgaria, this kind of flexibility can also be useful when thinking about a wider Bulgarian language partnership. Language training does not always need to mean another traditional course. Sometimes learners already know plenty and simply need somewhere to use it.
The same applies to language learning and relocation in general. You can know all the right words and still hesitate the moment somebody asks you a simple question in a shop, at work or in your apartment building. The more often you speak, the less dramatic that moment becomes.
At Kristina Progress, the main goal of these sessions is exactly that – to turn passive knowledge into active language and help learners become more comfortable using Bulgarian in situations they actually encounter.
So if you understand more Bulgarian than you speak, hesitate before answering even when you know the words, or simply need somewhere to practise without worrying that every mistake is a disaster, the Speaking Practice Sessions are designed for exactly that.
You come prepared, you talk, you make mistakes, somebody corrects you, and then you try again. After enough practice, the hope is that when somebody asks you something in Bulgarian, your first thought is no longer How do I say this?.
You simply answer.
