Moving to a new country is a collage of small discoveries: the corner bakery that already knows your name, a shortcut that saves you ten minutes, the sound of a language you don’t quite understand yet. At KristinaProgress we don’t see Bulgarian as a barrier – we see it as a gentle, generous key that opens doors: to people, to everyday life, and to the small, warm moments that turn a place into home, to new collectives that we might soon call our family, to new horizons in one’s business and private life – and importantly, it also opens doors in your professional life and career opportunities. This guide explains how our courses and individual classes – both online and in Sofia – are designed around real life, not just exercises, and how you can choose the path that fits you best.
Learning that actually makes life easier
Practical learning means you get what you aim for – if you need to learn the language for your everyday life you don’t just need to memorize grammar – you need to solve real problems and be able to go about your everyday tasks – documents, bureaucracy, shops, deliveries etc. If you need to use the language in an office setting – we have a way to help you reach that goal specifically. Whatever you may need – our flexibility and rich experience allows us to work with our individual students specifically towards their goals in a manner that works for them.
Our lessons are built to answer your needs: learning the language so you get to do things such as: paying a bill, going to the bank, booking a doctor’s appointment, filling out forms, or asking the price of a pastry at the local bakery. We work with real texts and sample documents (forms, example emails, pharmacy and municipal dialogues), because practising with authentic material quickly reduces anxiety and builds confidence.
But we also have programs for those that want or need to go into depth with the language for an exam, a citizenship test or in order to start practicing their profession in Bulgaria.
On the other hand, we also provide group classes in which you can find:
Clear levels – always know the next step
Our group program is structured into clear levels so you always know what comes next: A1.1, A1.2, A2.1, A2.2, B1.1, B1.2, B2.1, B2.2, and C1. Each level includes a defined set of grammar topics, vocabulary blocks and practical tasks for listening, speaking and writing. In addition to core lessons, students receive extra exercises, tests and listening/speaking activities to support individual progress.
Formats that fit your life – learn bulgarian online, in-person, or a mix
Whether your week is full of meetings or you live outside Sofia, there’s a flexible way to study:
– individual Bulgarian lessons for focused goals,
– mini-groups (two to four people) for concentrated practice,
– full groups (up to eight people) for social momentum and more speaking time.
The online format isn’t just “convenient” – it’s a full learning environment with interactive materials, recorded exercises and easy resource sharing, so you keep momentum even when you travel. In-person classes add social energy, cultural discussion and role-play in a real-life setting.
Many students start online, then join a live group when it suits them – and if life gets busy, switching between formats is simple so you can keep up with the schedule that suits you best.
Language trips – memory + laughter
Language sticks best when it’s tied to an experience. KristinaProgress organises language trips – weekend events – that mix short walks, local meals and conversations with hosts in different regions of Bulgaria. Those shared moments turn vocabulary into stories and shy phrases into laughable, memorable exchanges.
We are building a Bulgarian community for foreigners – we hold meetings twice a year
We create community – and twice a year we meet with our students to catch up, speak a little Bulgarian, and have fun. These gatherings are a relaxed chance to put what you’ve learned into practice, reconnect with classmates and teachers, and celebrate progress together – an event designed around conversation, short activities and shared meals. (This tradition helps learners feel part of a living community, not just a classroom.)
How classes are organised
We have two main types of classes – individually tailored and standard group classes.
Group courses usually meet twice a week (1.5 h + 1.5 h – three hours per week) or once a week (three hours at a time) and include vocabulary and grammar work, tests, listening activities, language games and speaking exercises created by the team.
This balance gives grammar the repetition it needs while leaving plenty of room for playful speaking practice and confidence-building.
Individually-tailored classes can be completed with individual students or small groups of students and in those cases everything depends on people’s goals, deadlines, language level and capabilities.
What you’ll be able to do after our courses or lessons
(These outcomes reflect what students in our beginner courses can typically expect.)
- Talk to a doctor or pharmacist with less stress – describe symptoms and understand recommendations.
- Handle municipal counters and basic residency paperwork – prepare documents and follow staff directions.
- Use workplace phrases for emails, meetings and polite introductions – join short meetings and send professional emails.
- Join local life – from the bakery around the corner to an office lunch – and feel like you belong.
Above all, we adapt courses to your goals and work to build much deeper foundations — so that over time you feel truly at home in Bulgaria, almost as if you were born here.
Bulgarian for businesses and families – practical, tailored options
KristinaProgress works with learners of all ages. There are children’s and family modules (songs, games, adapted texts) and corporate programmes – intensive courses for teams, industry-specific vocabulary and on-site training. These options help families settle more easily and help companies reduce language barriers and improve team efficiency.
